The 7th Annual Mad Dog Mandich Fishing Classic was a huge success. Keeping with tradition, the tournament hosted its Offshore Division, but also added a new Inshore Division. With 136 anglers on 35 boats, and another 100 guests that converged from all over South Florida, everyone enjoyed a weekend filled with fishing, fantastic food, drinks, gifts and prizes. Islamorada Offshore Fishing ReportThe offshore waters have been exploding with mahi this month. The lack of people in the islands at this time of year make for great fishing as you seldom see a charter boat on any given day way offshore. Its the slow season, not for fishing, but for charters and every other business here.Every charter we take, are taking good numbers of nice fish. The fish can be located anywhere from 20 to 45 miles out. Every weed line does not contain fish. You need to train your eye to the ones with fish. These will have...

Offshore   It has been an excellent bite on Tuna and Mahi. Our charters continue to catch on excess of 20-80 fish per full day charters. We are getting some huge fish up to 54 pounds and tuna to 45 pounds. We caught one blue marlin this past week of approximately 350. -375 pounds on a marlin charter. Our fishing is taking place from 20 to 45 miles from Islamorada. Live bait fishing has been the trick on all species of fish we are catching. The tuna are best approached by finding birds then circling the school and then find the...

Offshore The mahi or dolphin bite has been excellent this past week and weather has cooperated well with fairly flat seas. The mahi have been found between 250 to 1200 feet. There were many weed lines but only few were harboring fish. The bigger fish as usual are found one by one vs in the schools. We caught several big mahi this week and literally hundreds of schoolies.   The tuna bite is good to excellent in areas with little boat traffic. The humps have been hammered by weekend fishermen and it is not worth the time spent. We found tuna action away from...

Offshore  The mahi or dolphin bite has been outstanding this last week. Either one can concentrate on the large schools of dolphin filling up the box or target the bigger fish solo and resulting in fewer fish. The blackfin tuna bite is good for the larger blackfins trolling in deeper water around schools if birds or hitting the humps for the smaller footballs. Marlin action this past week has been nil! Of note are the migrating bluefins encountered last week in 10-12 foot seas. Boat maneuvering was a challenge getting in front of the speedy tunas. They averaged 300-500 lbs...
