Islamorada Offshore Fishing ReportThe offshore waters have been exploding with mahi this month. The lack of people in the islands at this time of year make for great fishing as you seldom see a charter boat on any given day way offshore. Its the slow season, not for fishing, but for charters and every other business here.Every charter we take, are taking good numbers of nice fish. The fish can be located anywhere from 20 to 45 miles out. Every weed line does not contain fish. You need to train your eye to the ones with fish. These will have...

Offshore   It has been an excellent bite on Tuna and Mahi. Our charters continue to catch on excess of 20-80 fish per full day charters. We are getting some huge fish up to 54 pounds and tuna to 45 pounds. We caught one blue marlin this past week of approximately 350. -375 pounds on a marlin charter. Our fishing is taking place from 20 to 45 miles from Islamorada. Live bait fishing has been the trick on all species of fish we are catching. The tuna are best approached by finding birds then circling the school and then find the...

Offshore  The mahi or dolphin bite has been outstanding this last week. Either one can concentrate on the large schools of dolphin filling up the box or target the bigger fish solo and resulting in fewer fish. The blackfin tuna bite is good for the larger blackfins trolling in deeper water around schools if birds or hitting the humps for the smaller footballs. Marlin action this past week has been nil! Of note are the migrating bluefins encountered last week in 10-12 foot seas. Boat maneuvering was a challenge getting in front of the speedy tunas. They averaged 300-500 lbs...

Offshore This past week it has been extremely windy having few boats weathering the seas. On a charter yesterday Upper Keys Sportfishing caught about a dozen tuna into the 10-15 pound size and released many more smaller than 10 lbs. Also in the mix were dolphin in the 10-20 pound range along with multiple schoolies released. A good size wahoo was lost boatside of nearly 30 pounds. Sailfish and billfish in general were not targeted. Reef  Yellowtail snapper fishing remains excellent if you can withstand the waves. Good numbers of yellowtail mixed with mangrove as well as grouper are regular guests in...

Offshore The mahi bite slowed a bit during the week but good size mahi are still to be had when concentrating on the bigger trophy fish. The tuna bite continues to be good catching nice sized tuna in the 10-15 pound class trolling feathers. The billfish bite so far is the best I have seen this early for several years. We have raised and released several blue marlin and one white marlin yesterday on a combination of live bait and a few Marlin Bost lures. Colors "matching the hatch" are what is working well for us.  ReefsThe yellowtail and mangrove snapper...
